Answers to common questions that students have before booking guitar lessons. If you have a question that is not answered below do get in touch and I would happy to talk with you more about it.
I certainly do teach beginners and have many years experience of helping people who have no previous knowledge of playing to a point where they are confident guitar players. Straight away we will look at the kind of music you wish to learn. Aiming to play this way will get you making music in no time and rapidly develop your skills without too much ‘drill’ or exercises.
I do teach children and have taught many young students to learn to play the guitar over the years. I teach from the age of 5 years old and upwards - for more information about lessons for young learners don't hesitate to get in touch.
I am based in Camden Town, (Arlington Road, NW1 7HD), a two minute walk from the tube station. I have plenty of teaching resources, equipment and guitars at my home studio so there is no need to bring your own instrument if that is inconvenient. I am also able to travel to you for lessons, there will be an additional travel charge for lessons held at a student's home.
I am happy to teach both electric and acoustic guitar. I teach everything from Acoustic ‘folky’ fingerstyle and strumming, to electric rock guitar soloing and jazz improvising. Whatever styles you want to learn, we will explore it during our lessons.
It is not necessary for you to own a guitar before starting lessons but it is preferable. Your own guitar, of reasonable quality, will become one you are familiar with and comfortable playing. It is for this reason that it is best to use your own during lessons, where convenient. It is certainly necessary for you to have regular access to a guitar as frequent (ideally daily) practice is essential for the development of you guitar skills.
That is no problem at all, just contact me as soon as you can to let me know, this enables me to offer that time slot to another student. We can re-arrange our planned lesson for another suitable time. Please note that Guitar Lessons London operates a 48 hour cancellation policy, whereby, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours of your lesson slot you will be charged the full price of that lesson with no exceptions.
Although I have limited experience of the grades system I can certainly help you prepare for taking either Rock School or Registry Of Guitar Tutors exams.
No you don’t. Many people do feel that weekly lessons help them to stay focussed and progress steadily and children will very often benefit from weekly lessons. However, many of my students attend every other week and some ( more advanced ) as and when they feel they need to ‘top up’ their knowledge. You will certainly take away enough from each lesson to keep you busy for a couple of weeks but frequent lessons tend to mean more rapid progress.
If you need to cancel or rearrange, please call, text or e-mail me 24 hours before the scheduled lesson. Please see my terms and conditions below:
1. Regular cancellation of lessons may result in you losing your slot.
2. 24 hours notice is required for cancellation of a lesson. If less than 24 hours notice is given, the full lesson fee is charged. (Does not apply in exceptional circumstances).
3. Gift vouchers must be used within six months of purchase. Vouchers may only be used by the recipient. Gift vouchers are non-refundable.
4. For block bookings paid in advance:
(i) Lessons must be taken within 6 months of booking.
(ii) Lessons received up to the point of cancellation will be charged at full rate.
